MSCJ member J.-Prof. Dr. Kai Lawonn has been awarded the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize.

The prize, awarded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is the top award for early career investigators in Germany. It serves to recognize outstanding work as well as acting as an incentive for winners to continue their career independently and purposefully. J.-Prof. Lawonn is one of ten researchers who receive the prize this year. A total of 150 researchers across all disciplines were nominated. The award ceremony will take place virtually on May 4, 2021.
Kai Lawonn’s research on data visualisation ranges from medical visualisation and illustrative visualisation to geometric computing, computer graphics and visual analysis. In his work, Lawonn develops new theoretical concepts which he always links to applications in fields as diverse as medicine, chemistry and heritage conservation.
