Talk on “Environmental Data Driven Modelling“
May 26, 2016 @ 2:15 pm - 5:00 pm
Prof. Dr. Mikhail Kanevski from University of Lausanne is giving a lecture on „On Environmental Data Driven Modelling“.
The presentation deals with the analysis, modelling and visualization of high dimensional, multivariate environmental data using machine learning algorithms. The generic methodology is presented and some important topics are considered: monitoring networks and representativity of data, understanding of input spaces by estimating intrinsic dimension and clustering, predictability, modelling and testing of the results. The case studies presented include natural hazard and renewable resource assessments, and environmental pollution.
Prof. Kanevski is a highly distinguished expert in machine learning for spatial environmental data. His research includes the development of artificial neural network and support vector machine techniques for spatial prediction problems, and their application in a variety of contexts. His talk promises to be inspiring for quantitative geographers, data-driven environmental modellers and computer scientists alike.
