The Friedrich Schiller University (FSU) Jena, the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (MPI-BGC) and the Institute of Data Science of the German Aerospace Center (DLR IDW) will jointly become part of the excellence network “European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems” (ELLIS), which brings together diverse theoretical and applied aspects of artificial intelligence.
In the ELLIS Unit Jena (AI for Earth System, Climate and Environmental Sciences), the institutions combine their work on AI, especially with regard to machine learning (ML). Prof. Dr. Markus Reichstein from MPI-BGC and Prof. Dr. Joachim Denzler from FSU Jena and DLR IDW are the directors of the unit. Further members are Prof. Dr. Alexander Brenning, Prof. Dr. Joachim Giesen and Dr. Jakob Runge.
