The first ever Un-conference for Research Software Engineering in Germany took place at the “Altes Schloß Dornburg” from September 26 to 29. It has been coorganized by Research Software Engineers (RSEs) Germany and the the Competence Center Digital Research (zedif). Around 60 participants from various disciplines came together who develop scientific software or take care of the administration, maintenance and promotion of software projects.
In contrast to an ordinary conference like the regular Conference for Research Software Engineering, un-deRSE offered participants a lot of room for exchange – in free formats such as workshops, brainstorming sessions or direct collaboration in hackathons. In addition to practical topics such as reproducibility, development processes, and quality assurance of software and documentation, discussions around the position, training, and funding of RSEs in academia took on a special focus.
