+ Prof. Dr. CHRISTIAN EGGELING, Superresolution Microscopy

+ Prof. Dr. EDDA HUMPRECHT, Communication Science with a Focus on Digitalization and the Public Sphere

Tue 21.05.2024 16:00 – 17:30 seminar room E012 (ground floor of the Rosensäle building, Fürstengraben 27).

Together with his team, Prof. Eggeling develops advanced optical microscopy for the investigation of molecular organization and dynamics in cells, especially on the cellular plasma membrane. Highlights are the optimization of superresolution STED microscopy and its combination with single-molecule fluorescence spectroscopy tools such as fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), use of adaptive optics for deep-tissue investigations, advancements in single-particle tracking (using fluorescence, interferometric scattering (iSCAT) and novel superresolution MINFLUX microscopy), the detailed investigation of lipid membrane heterogeneity such as lipid rafts, and biological applications of all of these tools for investigations of multiple biomedical issues such as within the Excellence Cluster “Balance of the Microverse”, the Collaborative Research Center 1278 PolyTarget, infection diagnostics or immunology.

The research of Prof. Humprecht focuses on the question, how digital political communication in different countries is shaped by opportunity structures. She analyzes different forms of online communication, including comments in social media, videos and news, and uses empirical typologies to explain differences among countries. She is also interested in how recipients in different countries can be empowered against manipulative communication such as disinformation and conspiracy narratives.

In “MSCJ presents …”, members of Michael Stifel Center Jena, researchers from their working groups, researchers interested in MSCJ, and researchers in Jena with topics in the scope of MSCJ will introduce theirselves and their work in short talks (20 min + 10 min discussion, 2-3 talks per session). The presentations are followed by the opportunity for further discussion.

The aim is to meet exciting people and ideas (in a discipline close to the own or with a new unexpected perspective) and to find collaboration partners for solving research questions that could be adressed best with perspectives from different disciplines.

“MSCJ presents …” is planned to be a series of events, hold twice in each lecture period. The next event will be 27.06.2024 16:00 in the Uni Jena senate meeting room.
