This year, there was the Retreat of the “Werkstatt” project again after a long time. It took place on August 30 & 31 in the “Altes Schloss Dornburg”, a beautiful event location at Jena University.
The PhD students of the 15 pilot projects presented their work and a short overview on the 3 core projects was given by the respective postdocs and PIs. Some of the pilot projects had finished recently and fascinating final results have been presenteded. Other pilot projects are right in the middle of their research and explained their great ideas.
With this, the application projects received methodological input from the computer science projects and application projects in other disciplines. On the other hand, all projects learned about new applications of intelligent systems in certain research fields.
In addition to the presentations, the planning for the “Werkstatt Summer School” in 2023 was started. Ideas for topics have been collected and certain formats discussed (e.g., tutorials, hackathon, small project competition). The event is supposed to be international and include also topics from industry.
After a long time of meeting virtually only, everyone was happy to see each other in person again. In this way, fruitful networking was facilitated in addition to insightful presentations. Thanks to everyone for your contributions.
